Remember 1 thing here everyone..What You see is what you get..No trick photography or anything like that.. Once again no filler used!!!Same material same settings same everything..Beveled material..Beveled welded..Not beveled..Not beveled welded..Vice time!!!Next.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Let the beatings commence!!!This is the beveled piece..Next!...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:More destruction..Not beveled smashemupMore destruction..Damage from the vice..As we can all plainly see There is no weld failure.. There was no weld "flinching" either.. Proof positive that all will be alright..I like my eggs scrambled Thank You.. ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:They will say that wasn't a fair test...shoulda been at least a 6 pound hammer...and another broken vise...LMAOAnything worth doing is worth doing RIGHT
Reply:Did I miss something Zap?  I see the two pieces and understand the bevel/no bevel thing, and they are both broke.  Did one takes more blows?Nice weld on the bevel piece w/ no filler.Never mind, I think I caught you between posts.  Nice.Last edited by Rick Moran; 11-30-2007 at 03:04 PM.Hobart 140 Handler w/ gasHyperTherm Powermax 380 Plasmaoxy/acetylene

Reply:I know it's hard to grasp the reality of it all especially when the "misinformed"think they know all..I just beat the bajeebers out of both pieces and the proof is in the pics..If anyone still thinks it wont work I'll be more than happy to do it again at my next class..Then I'll cram it up your cramhole.. ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:Zap, just for fun, care to do the same with some plain steel pipe and beat on it? It'd be interested to see it break.

Reply:Why didn't you use the same pipe as the "the pipe in question", 1/8 inch wall is 25% thicker. Just to shut us up. Also one major benefit of adding the filler to make the weld the same thickness as the pipe is water erosion. With the weld bing the thinnest part of the fitting, it will rot through faster. I would hate it if the customer came back, and had to have you redo it in a year.
Reply:I just got a real good mental image of what some of Zap's co-workers must have thought when they watched him weld a section of pipe, the vise it and beat the living snot at of it, stopping only to take pictures and snicker like a mad-man...

Reply:We used to hydro test small steel containers to failure.  These were around 1/8" thick low alloy steel, around 2" diameter and maybe 8" long.  These would burst along the length of the cylinder at around 10,000 psig. This would be a good quantitative strength test for tube welds ya'll are discussing.  Not saying that this test is needed for these parts, just saying for acedemics, it would give you an actual valid strength measurement.
Reply:Nice work Zap.I am the only one there all day.  Last time I used a tripod and the timer.  I was thinking what if a customer comes in.  DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:zap im not sure what this is about ,but you     may not realise how close you are there to passing a pipe test.that concave look you have says the metal has gone through.had you purged it ,you would have a wedding ring to show us.but think about it ,it does leave a void in pipe thickness, that why the boffins get paid i agree its a pain, but a second run there and you were home. pipefitter
Reply:But pulser, academically Zap has a BFH and a vise.  He doesn't have a hydro test facility.  Or does he????And zap, the BFH test doesn't really count until the part breaks -somewhere-.My take is that a fused weld may be adequate for the task, but it -will- be a weak point.  Speaking in broad generalities.Like usual zap, nice welds.  The plain butt welds look a little better to my eye than the bevel-prepped pieces, because of the concavity on the beveled pieces.  A concavity -is- a weak point, on multiple levels.Oh, and stainless steel is stain LESS, not 'this steel will never corrode'.

Reply:Nice work  Two questions. These probably have been asked but i havn't come across them yet.Why did you not use filler? Also without filler how do you get that weave look in the weld. I guess i just need to see it personally how this hole fusing without filler looks like which i have yet to see.
Reply:OH BOY  NOT AGAIN..... I took about 20 minutes to read the whoooole post, and the one that says fusion 101 I think....Learned alot, laughed alot, went back and forth alot.............in the end????Only Jebus knows...LOLRead up.Miller blue star 2eLincoln 175

Reply:Zap, any chance you want to slice those two peices of pipe n half and let us see the penetration difference between the bevel and no bevel weld? Also I think you need to get a bigger hammer, one style has to be weaker, even if both are stronger than the base metal.
