new position. i need help!!!

hello and thanks for the help! i currently have six years of experience in the fabrication of heavy hual trucks and i have accepted a position through the same company but a different sub company out of Austria doing repair and design changes/revisions on tower cranes. N ow heres where i need help from the more experienced guys i currently work inside in a very nice fabrication shop makeing above 20 a hour...i have not learned the new hourly rate of the new position but i do know that it requires seventy five percent travel time throughout the year..what is the average a repair welder on this type of stuff makes? do you think it would be a good career desision for me to acctually accept and sign for this job? thanks so much guys!
Reply:I would aleast expect per diem (living expenses). This should vary depending on location. Different places have different motel expenses, food costs and all of that. The hourly rate for travelling welders varies depending on the duties performed. Ask some od the opder guys in your company what the avg pay is, then be willing, as a new this job area guy to settle for a tad less. Get some experience and hone your skills thwn ask for a raise. Reply:Anything you can do to expand your skill set is a good thing.  They would not have made the offer unless they were sure you could adapt and learn the job.  If you applied to them then the situation is a little different, but most jobs will allow a learning period, just make sure to use it wisely.  In the end as long as your improving yourself I say go for it.  You will be much happier in a few years when you have a complete well rounded set of skills to draw from.  BobI'm spending my Kids inheritance, I dont like him that much anyway!!!!!!Enuff tools to do the job, enough sense to use em.Anybody got a spare set of kidneys?  Trade?

Reply:Tak has a point especially if you have a sig other who would like you home.  I trucked for a good while so I have been away a lot in the last 10 years, but my better half is self sufficient and supported me out on my "adventures".  I got home when I needed but not as much as I wanted, but the extra money made up some of the loss.  Definately something to consider if you haven't.BobI'm spending my Kids inheritance, I dont like him that much anyway!!!!!!Enuff tools to do the job, enough sense to use em.Anybody got a spare set of kidneys?  Trade?
