I need to put together 0.35 thick Aluminum tubing. Is it better to Tig it or solder it.I want to go with solder. What solder can any one recommend.
Reply:Hobart makes low-temperature aluminum brazing rod - with a lot of zinc in it.This is a stock item at most Tractor Supply Company (TSC) stores.I've had good results with the product for non-critical repairs.  The braze is very strong and hard.  A good propylene 'swirl' torch provides enough temperature to do most aluminum brazing jobs.Note:  If you go this route and are not happy, you can't just TIG over the braze because of its high zinc content.  You would have to undo the braze and clean up all traces of the zinc. The other alternative is a high-temperature braze using 4047 rod - available at a welding store.  This also requires that you purchase and use a special aluminum-brazing flux. However, given that your tubing is only about 1/32 inch thick, I wouldn't recommend this approach - far too much danger of blowing through the thin wall using an oxy-acet torch or melting the tube wall using a propylene 'swirl' torch.Rick V 1 Airco Heliwelder 3A/DDR3 CTC 70/90 amp Stick/Tig Inverters in Parallel1 Lincoln MIG PAK 151 Oxy-Acet
Reply:Thanks for the info. I would like to solder and not tig it because it"s too thin. I will be able to get some solder from harris.
