Welding up some holes in truck frame?

I have a 67' truck Im restoring and want to weld up some holes in the frame.. I figure I can cut out plugs out of the same thickness metal 3/16" and weld them in.  I have a millermatic 210 so thinking I can penatrate through 3/16" in one shot using .030 and looks like 3/52 on the chart for settings.  I am wondering if this is the correct way to do it?  I also am thinking do I need to cool it quick or put like a alluminum block etc behind it for heat sink etc..etc.?Todd
Reply:How big are the holes? Just unused mounting points or something? Depending on the diameter of the holeI might just fill it in with wire and be done. I'm assuming this is a cosmetic thing in which case it would grind out just fine for small bolt holes.

Reply:Here is some more info... it currently is a 2wd and Im changing it over to 4wd.. so I will be putting a 12" lift on it and have the leafs off an 85' F350 so used that on the rear so put new hangers in new locations.  Want to fill the old holes from the original leaf hangers so they are about 9/16 or larger...here is a pic of whats going on right now. Reply:prity bad pic's as far as giving us an idea but i would agree with the above just shoot it full of wire unless its a large hole then add a plug as you mentioned, i would not worry to much about cooling speed, not unless you are dealing with a hole taking up 3/4 or more of the frame rail. as it sounds like just filling in old bolt points, i think just wire would work well fallowed by a flap disk and then on to paint. summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.
