Sheep and Goat Tilt-Squeeze

Hello all,I am a sign builder, jack of all trades and am building a contraption for "doctoring" the goats and sheep on my farm. I just need a little help with a diagram.In the diagram at the bottom left of the page, why is the measurement "55 1/2" taken from center to center of the two upright pipes? Because that would require deducting the thickness of one pipe to get the measurement of the horizontal pipe at the bottom. Is that correct? The actual OD of the 1 1/4" pipe is 1.625". So if I cut that horizontal pipe exactly 55 1/2", then notch the ends half the width of the pipe(13/16") on each end (totalling 1.625") I should end up with the 55 1/2" center to center, right?Thankshttp://msucares.com/pubs/plans/6006.pdf

Reply:Thanks!I cut my notches so that inside to inside distance was 53 7/8.
