just in a different city and bored right now. Here for the main purpose to do this test ... soooo being bored i just decided to make a post to pass some timeDoing T-class weld test, 6" sch 80, 3/32 7019 root/hot passbut they said i have an option to use 3/32 to fill and cap instead of 1/8 ... my choice, so ill see what happensWooo HooooAnd  have to pay for my own tickets, ouch, i know
Reply:Todays practice went pretty well after i took 2  pieces (from a stack of maybe 20) of pipe that were cut from the same pipe and that was set aside for test dayT-class, 6G and i used 3/32 7018 for the whole thing, root, hot pass, fill, capI was told to use scrap pieces and found some. The pieces i found .. hmm.. how can i explain this.. it was like someone practiced root welds with 2" pieces about 3 or 4 times creating a 6-8" length of scrap pipe. hard to explainanyway, i found 2 of these pieces and decided to try itwhen lining up my pipe i quickly realized these 2 pieces were either cut from different lengths of pipe, different segments of pipe or were warped during previous persons practice. I tried it anyway, with high/low.. result was terrible, lack of fusion. Started to get angry at myself because i knew i could do it but didnt know what was happeningSooooo............I came to the conclusion that i'm paying my own money for this test, so i went and got these 2 good pieces.got my machine figured out and was pretty content with the results.Only had 3 small errors, but thats what practice is for1) inside root, just past the bottom tack, never fused as well as i had liked on 1 edge for about 1/8 in length. This section wouldn't have been bent in the test, but still, i need to make sure of this and not let it happen. 2) over head cap pass, last pass, i got a 1/8th little crater between the 2nd and 3rd pass right on the bottom where you start to go up each way. Im pretty sure my machine wasnt hot enough for this particular section because the liquid molten slag was falling down into the groove before my puddle and not letting my puddle wash into the last pass while i weaved down to fill it (arc force wasnt strong enough to keep it in control im guessing)3) in 1 or 2 sections on my cap, when i started the arc. It was like the rod had a cold start and took a second to get going. this giving me 1 or 2 small pin holes. Im going to have to turn my machine up slightly, just a few ampsIm Very Extremely critical about my own welds.I stashed the pipe so hopefully tomorrow it can be cut and bent.not bad for first practice since December ( its June now of course) and im pretty sure tomorrow will be better. I also think the instructor was a little impressed  at the root reinforcement, nice job he said, nice job. (im also Not close at all to being a journeyman)A piece of Hot slag managed to get inside my coat, inside my hoodie, inside my shirt and burn its way to my stomach and rest there for a bit giving me a nice burn blister. Reply:practice day 2 overfixed 2 problems but still got the inside root not fused at bottom, less than 1/8 this timethe real deal tomorrow... :-D
Reply:passed now its time for beerno problems at all .. thats untrue, i did have 1 section, tiny bit on the top tack that didnt fused when i was running into my tack. to be honest it most likly would have failed a xray or could have been fixed by a repairbut it wasnt in any part of the test pieces so it was ok for this particular time. I need to feather that top tack more and adjust my electrode angle so the molten slag dont get pushed in front of my puddleover all... im happy for now, but it wasnt a perfect root due to this thing i mentioned above.
