Ok, we started MIG welding in my intro class last Saturday. Initially I had trouble running beads. So I asked my instructor to run a bead for me so I can watch his wrist action. He moved the wire feeder in circles as he slowly moved it forward. I tried it his way and I did make better beads but still a bit sloppy. Any tips as to how improve my technique?

Reply:practice is the key.also make sure you are comfortable while welding, and try and use your off hand to support your welding hand for better control.
Reply:As Luzard and Chopper said practice is the key ,a common learners mistake is inconsistent travel speed and trying to go too fast.(I know it was with me )Good luck and most importantly enjoy it.Brett

Reply:The way i like to keep my beads consistent is that i whip it front to back and i count to keep a rhythm, go forward 1 go back go forward 2 etc… I like the way that keeps it consistent. hope you can understand what I’m saying.
Reply:Yeah, I noticed that my instructor had a really slow travel speed. I was going way to fast at first.stay away from the coffee ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home. |
