i am going to weld on some chevy cast iron heads.i have a old can of 3 /16 certanium 689 rods left over from a job.i was going to break off the flux and use them to o/a the cast heads.before i burn up a lot of gas, how about ya'll help me on a starting point? i will be using a oxweld w-17 torch .which tip should i use ? i have most of them ,but i have only used the brazing one.do i need any flux? what pressure  would you use? thanks
Reply:DENREP..  this sounds like one for ya weld it like you own it
Reply:Might wanna practice on a junk head to validate whatever technique ya choose...
Reply:denrep where are you?
Reply:any one got a thought?
Reply:If there is a difference between welding tips and brazing tips, I am unaware of it. What you need to do has been suggested already by Farmall. Try the technique on some scrap iron. My guess, is that you need to get a hold of cast iron compatible flux to go along with good filler rod. Preheat the whole thing to 800 + degrees. Weld.
