Reply:I think the overalls are the best thing you came home with.  They really keep you warm. (At least until ya get the heaters goin').  I buy mine 2 sizes too big so I can wear thermal undershirt, flannel shirt, hooded sweatshirt, and heavy carhart coat UNDERNEATH.  I can go out in a 15-20mph wind and stay relatively comfortable.  I look goofy as hell, but who cares.  People do a double take at the auctions when I show up, but I'm the one laughin'.Winter sucks"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:Oh yeah....  we was talkin' 'bout heaters to ward off the cold in the shop....  I found this propane heater at Lowe's for $129.  Runs on one of those 20lb propane pigs.   The heater puts out 18,000 BTU, has three infrared "biscuits" and three settings: low, medium, high - at 6,000 BTU each.    Garage is part of the house, insulated with frost wall.  15° outside, 35° inside.  Still chilly.  In an hour this heater brings the temp up to about 65°.  I like 55 - 65°.  On low the temp drops off slowly...  on medium it rises slowly.  On high it wil be 75° in 2 hours.   Too hot, unless painting.  Up to temp - shut off heater, paint!  Paint is dry by the time it cools off so much I need more heat.  Don't paint with heater on  has open flame.  Don't clean metal with acetone, either, with heater on.    Bought into the Blue Rhino system too. Cost me 50 bucks. 30 for the cylinder, 20 for the first fill.  What happened with them?  Used to be a propane pig was 20 lbs, Blue Rhino fills 'em to only 15lbs. for 20 bucks.  But I like the heater.  Makes the air a bit humid but no condensation or frost problems.  Way better than the top hat propane heater I had years ago.  That had two settings: Off and ON.  It would set my clothes on fire if I waked within 2 feet of the thing!   This new one is nicer.  On wheels and contains the cylinder too, I can roll it about while still on.   Attached ImagesMember, AWSLincoln ProMIG 140Lincoln AC TombstoneCraftsman Lathe 12 x 24 c1935Atlas MFC Horizontal MillCraftsman Commercial Lathe 12 x 36 c1970- - - I'll just keep on keepin' on.
Reply:Mondo,A '20 lb' propane cylinder is no longer 20 lbs of propane.  The mandated OPD (overfill protective device) physically closes the valve to any more incoming propane when the tank is filled to 80%.  So now a 20 lb tank is actually a 16 lb tank.  And yes, burning ANY hydrocarbon produces water (vapor).  Propane produces 4 molecules of water vapor for every molecule of propane completely burned in air.propane + oxygen = carbon dioxide + water + heat44 grams propane + 160 grams oxygen = 132 grams carbon dioxide + 72 grams water + heat  The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...
Reply:rlitman- i saw a jug marked $3 but thinkin about it it was way smaller than a gallon...ray if i sent her youd send her back...farmersamm  i still aint hungry...::heres what i made today--first pic is a hanger for my quarzt heater..some old angle and a little 6010--one  lag bolt into the side of a joist so i can swing her back out of the way when i need to..pics 2 and 3 i made some seasonal gifts for the folks in the office i  work at(sometimes)  --horseshoes from tractor supply $2.50, the 2 x 1/2 channel  demo'd from somewhere..nail em to a stud and hang whatever you need to on em...
