Just needed to vent a bit My Dynasty 200DX has a arrived! First off - thanks to all on this board for continuing support and advice with the decision.Thought I'd double check a few things as well with those that have experience with this machine; The humming/whiny noise when on is normal??? When I shut it down, it kinda whines down like a jet engine I've checked the NEW electrical installation that I did for this welder and I'm getting a good circuit test. Wanted to double check the wiring of the chord. I have 6-50R/P pair. I installed the plug on the chord - just like the owners manual said - tape off red (used exclusively for 3-Phase). Used white, black and green. Plug side - red & black (two hots) and ground (I used 8-3 w/g to the plug, but just capped off the white). Does it matter if PLUGWHITE is connected to black or red on receptacle? FYI - this is wired to a subpanel on a 30amp breaker. ground and neutral are NOT bonded at the subpanel.Just thought I'd confirm some things before toasting the investment. BTW - it welds fine! Well, the machine anyway, I hesistate to put a pic up of my first stick weld in 15 years -
Reply:the whine maybe the fan ?? SUPER FAN!!!!!!!!
Reply:I don't have that machine, but I have an inverter (powcon 300)...mine whines. In addition to the welding sounds (SPSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH), it goes EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! when I am welding and tickytickytickyticky when I am not. Congrats on the purchase...those are supposed to be nice 'uns.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:Great description of the sounds your PowCon makes! My 300SM makes the same sounds too. The EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE is even more pronounced with the pulser on.
Reply:I just got my 200DX as well, and it does seem to make some weird noises, even when the plug is pulled from the wall. I figured that was the filter capacitors draining down. Makes some pretty stick welds though ( still waiting for the throttle pedal ). I haven't heard the fan on, so Im guessing the weird noises to be 'normal' for inverter circuitry.. ( if not, I'll see how good Miller's warranty is)I too, had a question on HOW the machine was hooked up, the manual is somewhat vague. Im running it on 220v, but when I 'test' fired it up, we literally stuffed the wires in a nearby outlet. White to neutral, Green to ground, and black to Hot. Made the same noise then as it does on 220v.Congrats on the welder. I heard they're the cats meow, so I had to get one also.
Reply:Glad to hear - sounds like the what I'm hearing is normal! I'll get some butt-ugly stick weld pics posted ASAP - figure we could all use a laugh now and then...Still getting most of my shop tools together, like grinders, tables and such. Welding on the garage floor for now - but it's a start!
Reply:congratts to both of ya, i have herd about the funny sounds on the dyn befor so i thinnk is probly fine, ut if its not you will find out there warentee is the best as is the service when needed. they are great about standing behind there stuff. my MIG and plasma are miller but $$ made me go with the TA-185 over the dyn200DX not buy choice just after 3 years of saving i noticed every time i got to the $$ i thought they were they had gone up again, so i figured i better get the TA-185 befor i ended up saving for ever and never TIGing. got the TA-185tsw or tws or swt one of them at $1750 and 2 weeks later the arcmaster came out and the $$ went to $1900+ so i guess it was a good choice.so i put a nice blue cover on it and will make one with the miller logo for it next , that should keep the others from picking on it till i can aford the dyn200DX.you guys should be real happy with it. summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time. |
