Hey Gang, I did some more tig welding practice today on some mild steel .134 thick. The welds came out nicely and I am starting to learn how to connect and restart my welds. I figured I would share some pics with everyone. Let me know how they look.-Brian "newbie tig welder" Attached Images

Reply:Nice job your emproving well? Keep up the practice. now if I can get my allum tigging to improve that fast and well. I think I carrying over stainless habits and the two don't mix. anyway nice bead flow in these pcs keep them coming
Reply:x they are looking GOOD!!!!, here is a little hint on the last pic just right of the center of the pipe there is a crater and that is going to be the WEAK LINk, the key with tubing is having it the same all the way around...same goes with your h.a.z. thats what you should really focus on that you want it equal on both sides of the weld !!!good luck, brian

Reply:keep it clean and watch your heat input, and just dabb your filler where needed. go a little further then just the crater so you can BLEND IT in thats just my thoughts, good luckbrian
Reply:looking better all the time. 1st. pic looks like you went a little far before you rolled the tube. It gets thinner on the downhill side. 2nd pic. undercut a little or was this a fill pass? 3rd. pic. to repair the weld. Brush it up good then start back of the pin hole and miss stop, wait until your little white bubble starts going then move ahead and add wire where needed. Don't forget to pause at the pin hole until it solidifies. It also looks like you are trying to learn to dip the wire. Good to learn for alum. . On welding mild or stainless it is not necessary to dip although it has it's place. Try this once, on tube or pipe even plate keep the rod right in the puddle. Vert in the middle of the leading edge horiz. in the upper leading edge. When you stop to change positions let your wire freeze right in the weld. Then when you restart about a 1/4 in. back. your puddle ( little white dot) should be going when you start melting your wire. This will make for a nice restart. I've used this procedure for many a year on tubes and pipe, stainless, chromes & mild steels. On alum. you should dip so it's a good thing to learn. Sorry about long post got carried away. Like your pics. welds are coming good and quick learner. revpol
