I have a chipped gear in a stearing box on a little tractor. I had one guy tell me to weld it up with a 6010 nickle rod ang grind it back.Is this the best way? The gear is cast any help would be greatlly apperciated.
Reply:6010 is NOT a nickle rod and never has been. 6010 is a mild steel rod and not for welding cast anything. Download this .pdf to your computer. It gives rod use for parent metals and basic procedure. http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=31171It is probably cast steel and will require the correct rod and pre & post heat treatments.Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money. -Cree Indian ProverbSA 200 LincolnVictor Torches
Reply:Welding anything cast is a pain int the ast unless you know what you are doing. Buy the time you build it up and recut it you might have as much as to replace it unless it is a odd part or something.Millermatic 252millermatic 175miller 300 Thunderboltlincoln ranger 250smith torcheslots of bfh'sIf it dont fit get a bigger hammer
