Here is a former students senior mechanical engineering project. The cool thing is she was a very HARD working kid that was very driven, average in intelligence. Goes to show what motivation can do. She now sub-contracts with NASA. The car is all TIG welded and is powered from a motorcycle engine they got off E-bay. She and her now husband have entered it in various competitions and it has done quite well compared to the big boy engineering schools. Attached Images
Reply:Nice looking racer. Goes to show you what determination can do.
Reply:I agree neat kid neat family. She is a smart kid (better than average) but she could focus and organize. I'm not surprised she is a "team leader or project manager" at a young age.

Reply:She told me a story one of her professors tried to discourage her engineering. So that motivated her just that much more to do well in his class. I guess he did not like women in the program and made a few remarks.
Reply:I'd sure like to see some construction photos.
Reply:I agree with weldordie Lets see some prints pictures of the build a parts list, I put a 125 motorcycle engine on a 8hp three wheeler frame in my teens ( had to do the welders yard work, and detail his vehicles for the welding) I did all the design and measurements for everything and got all the materiel, he was a hobby welder (not very good, but better than me at the time) but it held together through some hard treatment. Reply:She brought some construction photos with her when she spoke to my classes, they were pretty cool. She was a student of mine when she was in 8th grade. She was invited to give a talk about goals and careers.
Reply:Did she use FEA to design the chassis?
Reply:I know there is a pretty girl in the photo. But in all fairness she is blocking the view to the rear suspension and the engine bay. Great project . More pictures please.
Reply:Supe I'm not sure what program they used.PMAC These are all the pictures I have. I took the picture to put on The Hall of Fame Wall" in my class. Her mom is pretty, that must be where she gets her looks. Dad looks like a mountain man (ZZ top beard) 6'3" and big. He is as gentle as mouse and got into teaching a few years ago after he got hurt in a mill or something. He does alot of skinning and pelt prep for people. |
