whats the best to paint alum. fence
Reply:With a roller
Reply:scuff it with green scotch brite, use a self etching primer, then follow recommendations on primer. I usually use another primer over the self etching then a two-stage automotive paint although a single stage would work well.

Reply:Well the best depends on many things, but here is the BEST for corrosion protection.1-Wash with mild detergent and rinse 2-Metal Prep acid etch3-Alodine4-Chromate rich primer ( real zinc chromate ) OR4-Chromate and Lead rich epoxy primer ( DP-40 ) or Stitts epoxy5-Enamel top coat , not catalyzed, the sacrificial elements in the primer need oxygen to work, seal them in and you get filiform corrosion under the paint.Self etching primers were developed to be a cheaper alternative to the traditional system mentioned above. The need very specific temperature and humidity conditions to work well and in general are not suitable for the field. Most paint shops dont realize the technical nature of that material.-Aaron
