The local welding shop has a demo unit for $1635 includes hw17v tig torch , spare parts kit, 15 ftwork cable, tc-3a torch control (is this a fingertip or a foot control?) flowmeter with hose, 1lb electrodes. Is this a good tig unit? The price seems good from searching the internet. Although it says demo unit it looks brand spanking new. I just don't know anything about esab.Fred
Reply:TC-3A is Torch Control, a Foot Control would be FC-XX.ESAB is a very reputable brand. It looks like the msrp for the basic package is around $2400. Sounds like a decent deal for AC/DC TIG with everything you need (except argon) plus the current control.
Reply:I would stay away from that Esab. There have been lots of issues with it. I did pick one up from my friend at Airgas for $400.00. That one was brought back for some problem of one kind of another. My friend just got tried of sending them all back. It was new. I took it home and go it working pretty nice with a smaller tungsten, then I sent it off to a guy that wanted more then me. I was surprised it worked as well as it did. The variable freq through the foot control was interesting. It's made in Italy and was never really designed for a foot control but Esab had them add one to it. It was made for a button control with the sloper.Overall I liked the machine pretty well but it's kind of a gamble compared to other units out. It is really light weight and will pack a pretty good punch on ac output. The freqs are set high at the start and taper down to lower freqs the more you press on the pedal. It makes it think it's a bigger machine. If you are going to sell before the warranty is up (3 years) then I would buy one. Of course if it make it three years then you probably have a good one of those. Not everyone of them is plagued.
Reply:thanks, I think I will shy away. |
