I made a wood stove out of two barrels 1 55gal 1 120# keg  and the standerd door leg kit. I cut the top and bottom out of the 55 gal drum then I turned the drum on it's side then suspended the keg in the middle so there was about eight inches of air all around the keg (fire box). i USED A 8" flue pipecomming out of the fire box to your tipical chimmny pipe. I installed a 22" fan at the end of the drum so air would blow around the fire box it also kept the outside drum somewhat cool to the touch .I have two boys always in my shop helping me with something, If they touched the tipical firebox 3rd degree burn instantly! and if anything fell over on it it would catch fire right away It works well. The only thing that I would change I used the legs that come with the kit about 6" long make them about 3' so you dont have to get on your hands and knees to load the stove. The stove that I built is about 10 years old and still puttin out a lot of heat! the log size is limited to the size of the opening but can be almost 3' long. good luck

Reply:I think Northern Tool sells the kit for about $100.00 total. I thought of buying the kit and making my own wood stove. New (only used once) 55 gal drums are $5 out here at a scrap yard.

Reply:I recently purchased the two barrel stove kits from Northern Tool. My shop is cement block with no insulation and is 28x34.I have always had trouble keeping the shop warm with any airtight stove I have tried. This double barrel stove works awesome-it will cook you out of the shop and only needs to be stoked every 10 to 12 hours. The top barrel removes a significant amount of heat from the smoke before it goes up the chimney. We recently went through a week of -30 degree weather here and it was nice to work in the shop in a t-shirt.Last edited by jcarter; 01-18-2009 at 08:52 PM.
