Last summer after doing some repair work on a hay mower, the rancher gave me a bucket of mower blades. I didn't know what I would do with them but they were metal so I took them and put them in my bone pile. I finally came up with an idea a few weeks ago with what to make out of them--knives. They are a little different than most knives but they work well for what they are intended for.The first two I made had a hook like blade like a gut hook. I gave one to the rancher that gave them to me to use for cutting the wrapping off of round bales when he feeds. When his neighbor seen it he had to have one as well. I didn't get pictures of those. I just recently built another to be used as a skinning knife. It has a good swept up blade and worked well on the last deer I killed. With the finger hole you don't have to put the knife down while pulling on the skin.

Reply:It looks a lot like the blade from a Corona pruner, with a much larger pivot hole and the handle missing. The big question is: Can you shave with it?

Reply:These blades are made out of really high quality, German or Swiss steel usually.  Too bad, you didn't get hold of some of the really long ones that are completely flat.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT
Reply:My father had something like that from World War II. They called it a Knuckle Knive. Not sure if it was used like brass knuckles. He said it was used for close quarters fighting. My Wood's Dixie Cutter has 24" blades on it. 1/2-5/8" thick they would make one heck of a bladeCo-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.&  2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.
