Reply:def not cast iron i did the spark test and def a steel, 7018 would mig work too?
Reply:I would stick w/ the stick(pardon the pun!!). If you don't have a 220v mig I don't think you'd get good penetration or fusion. I'll suggest you bevel each side down w/ a 45* angle and almost to a point, else it will probably break again. Peen the welds good as you fill it up,ie: every couple of passes, to relieve stress, and yes, I'd use 7018. Reply:Grind the round part down to a chisel point and 7018
Reply:A Stainless E312 electrode/filler would be a better choice, being as it is unknown what grade of steel that it is actually cast from, also E312 filler will be less likely to crack.Last edited by Baila La Pinza; 07-07-2011 at 07:57 AM.
Reply:That has the look of a forged part wampler, if it is there should be a trim line on the sides not shown in the picture.Mileage will vary with welded forgings so I'd be looking out for a used part. Any forged part is going to be 100ksi minimum strength.Matt
