I was finally able to buy a welding machine for the back of my truck today. I got a Lincoln Ranger 305g. I finished the install tonight. I'll be posting pics of it tomorrow in the daylight. I still have to finish fabing up the mounts for my torch bottles and mount my toolbox but I'm getting there. I'm getting ready to test for Nicor gas Who else uses their truck for a welding rig?__________________Local 597 PipefittersCertified stick and tig pipe welderLincoln Ranger 305g - for saleMiller 185 migMiller Digital Elite
Reply:Slick Lookin Truck. What Year? I dont use my truck for welding yet. But thats my dream is to have my own mobile repair.TJ
Reply:I orderd a truck, for a welding rig. outfitted with aluminum stake bed with over and under alum. boxes. fabbed tank containment, spare mount. Plan on going out on your own? Union slowing down? Thought they frowned on moonlghting. flat beds nice to access stuff off truck. I can stand on ground and retrieve all equipment, jackstands, tanks, leads, etc. but mine is 2wd posi dually, lot lower!

Reply:Originally Posted by schwinn68There's plenty of clearance. The picture doesn't do it justice. I'll snap another one in the morning to show how much room there is.
Reply:LOL I had to go back and look at my pictures again when you said that to see what you were talking about and it looks like the stack is coming out the side of the welder. I'll keep taking pics as I go to show my progress.Local 597 PipefittersCertified stick and tig pipe welderLincoln Ranger 305g - for saleMiller 185 migMiller Digital Elite
Reply:Hey Schwin what part of Elgin are you in.. I lived most of (28 years) of my life in that area. Went to Elgin High School.. My older brother still lives out there, he owns a speed shop called Midwest Speed and Performance. My mother lives in Crystal Lake and my younger brother, aslo a welder, lives in Wonder Lake.. I'll tell ya what, I don't miss all that white $hit on the ground! It was 73 here today, not bad for the first of Feb and being 2 blocks from the ocean!Nice to see folks from my home town on here! Reply:I'm actually from Minooka. HAHA Where did you get the Elgin from? Does your brother have a dyno at his shop? I'm jealous of the weather and water that you're experiencing right now. Reply:That's a great looking setup; is that an 8' bed?? I'm thinking I'll get a 305G as soon as finances allow. Lincoln Electric has been very supportive of our pipefitting school.Last edited by regularfella; 02-03-2009 at 09:40 AM.
Reply:It's just a six foot bed. The lincoln is a great machine. It has plenty of power for what I need and with the generator I can power my house if the lights go out.Local 597 PipefittersCertified stick and tig pipe welderLincoln Ranger 305g - for saleMiller 185 migMiller Digital Elite

Reply:We have the same step bars. The newer chevy's are nice, we had to rent one awhile back to empty the other half's storage unit (for obvious reasons, I have no cargo capacity in the back in the back of mine!). The one we rented was fully loaded. It had more buttons than I knew what to do with! Looking good so far! Out of curiosity, which company out of Indiana did you get your reel's from? Do they have a website? Last edited by mb_welder; 02-06-2009 at 05:21 AM.When you get the cover for the welder, make sure it's the right one before you put it on. My coworker has a Lincoln Ranger 10,000 mounted on his service truck, and the company bought a cover for it. No problem, looks really nice. My service truck has a Lincoln Ranger 225 GXT mounted on it(wish I had a camera to show you how I mounted it), and they decided to get a cover for mine too. The LWS first gave us the same one that fit the 10K. Seemed to be an extremely tight fit. Turns out it was the wrong cover. The 10K has an exposed engine with the exhaust coming off the side of the engine. The 225 GXT, like yours, has the access covers built in and the exhaust coming out the top. The correct cover should have a "bubble" in the top of it for the exhaust pipe.

Reply:Nice I like your pipe stands too. You might want to re-route that exhaust back under the truck so you don't burn yourself on it working around it, plus you'll have more room in the truckbed too. Next thing I would get for it is a lumber rack so you have a way to haul lengths of metal, and a big jobsite tool box in the bed next to the welder to store your power tools, feeder, cables, etc so they don't grow legs when you're away from the truck.Good luck with the new rig!MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op

Reply:Is there room on the hose reel for more hose? And is the hose they provided quality stuff, or not? Thanks. Originally Posted by schwinn68I've only got the torch hose reel so far. I've found a couple of sets I'm interested in but nothing has jumped out at me so much that I've bought anything yet.
