Reply:Maybe he's talking about contaminated gear? Did you wash your hands before picking up that torch? dunno.
Reply:Sanitary welding often refers to food or drug industry piping and equipment. There must be absolutely no undercut or grapes on the inside of piping. Any notch will be a site for bacteria to grow.

Reply:I was a maintence mechanic in a pasta plant (DiGiorno)for a while. We didn't double joint anything. We purged and welded sanitary quick disconnect flanges on the ends of each pipe. Then we had to flipper wheel the inside of the pipe smooth at the weld. 90's and 45' were bought from a supplier already flanged up. The pipes were used to pump egg and water for the pasta making process. Each night the pipes were connected to sanitation equipment and sanitized.
