Did a search but had no luck . Wondering if anyone can help me out . I am painting fabs for a local shop and have been having fits trying to remove coolant from some of the jobs . Not much available in the shop other than Varsol ( mineral spirits ) laquer Thinners and or dishsoap and water . Some of the pieces are quite large - frames for heavy equipment . Any help would be appreciated .( there is no isocyanate topcoats used here ). Mainly laquer /red oxide prime , and enamel paints
Reply:The coolant manufacturer would be the people that I would ask first about this. They best know what is in it and what will remove it properly. If you want to try soap and water, use an industrial cleaner or something like Purple Power and a pressure washer. We did this on a couple of projects, doing it outside on pavement and then letting the sun dry them off. This may or may not work for you, depending on the coolant.CharleyMiller MM252Miller Bobcat 225NTMiller DialArc HF / DIY Cooler2 Victor O/A TorchsetsMilwaukee 8" Metal SawMilwaukee Dry Cut "Chop" Saw 5 Ton Wallace Gantry Various Grinders, Benders, etc.
Reply:i would probably wash with a brush, dawn soap and water , blow off with an air hose, then wipe down with acetone...tackleexperts.comwww.necessityjigs.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/mach...dingequipment/

Reply:Looks like I am stuck between a rock and a rock ------ no floor drain available - so water is out . Some of the fabs are over 15,000 # so going outside is a no go .( crane only goes to the door way ) it was worth a shot . thanks guys.
Reply:I don't understand what coolant would be doing on newly-manufactured metal parts----or are these retrofits of old equipment? By coolant, do you mean antifreeze and similar fluids, or silicone fluids, or something else?As for using water, it would be possible to build a wooden framework and line it with heavy plastic tarps, similar to a kids swimming pool, and hang tarps to contain the spray and direct it into the pool.Consider what you might need to do to dispose of the fluid when done though, depending on what is dissolved in it. If the material to be cleaned is mostly flat, a large nozzle could be made with a jet inside and a pick-up for a wet vacuum around it, so the surface could be cleaned without loosing any of the water which could be reused by having the washer draw from the vacuum tank until the job was done or the water had to be changed.Either way, it sounds like a job to subcontract to a teenage son or neighborhood kid....at least, in the "old days"..... |
