Hello, I was thumbing through the operators manual for my Lincoln Invertec STT-II and it had 2 fuel settings for welding Stainless. One with 90% He, 7.5% Ar, and 2.5% C02. And another for 98% Ar and 2%02.I am wondering what the difference would be with each setting? Thanks
Reply:forget that..stainless is straight argon......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:Lincoln STT is Surface Tension Transfer, a very sophisticated wave form control to produce very controllable low spatter type or "short arc" transfer MIG. This is an awesome cool high tech development by Lincoln! For any type of MIG on stainless steel you need a small bit of Oxygen or CO2 in the inert gas mix. (I think ZAP assumed this was TIG, for which you would use straight argon). I would bet the He mix is intended to increase the arc heat to eek out more penetration for this low heat input process. The Ar-O2 mix is probably more suitable for thinner applications.
Reply:Hell, good luck getting helium right now. I think the o2 increases penetration. Never used either, straight argon for the tig, and a co2 mix for the mig.Various GrindersVictor Journeyman torch200cf Acet. 250cf oxygenLincoln 175 plus/alpha2 gunLincoln v205t tigLincoln 350mpEsab 650 plasmaWhen you can get up in the morning, Its a good day.Live each day like its your last. |
