Reply:Gas back-up on sheetmetal?... what you need is some aluminum to clamp the sheet too.. and use that as your "backup"..works every time.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:you arn't going to need backing gasChuckASME Pressure Vessel welder
Reply:so all i have to do is put the aluminum behind where im going to weld the joints and that's all i need.thanksJason

Reply:well i got all the pieces setup put the welder in Low rage and turned it down some but i think i need thinner filler rod because i was able to fill some but it was melting the sheet metal faster then the filler rod. so i think i need thinner filler.i will buy some tomorrow when the welding supply opens but i got the sheet mettle clean and pieces cut so tomorrow will be the fun part welding them :-)thanksJason
Reply:for sheetmetal I would use .045 wire..70S-2...give that a try ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Sorry... what's "gas backup"?? Is that like back purging (to shield the back of the weld)?.. I don't doubt it if using Aluminum is the answer.
Reply:yes it's back purgingChuckASME Pressure Vessel welder
Reply:Thanks.
Reply:While not ideal enough for a code weld you can use mig wire for filler if you cant find any tig filler that size.DennisThermal Arc 185-TSWMillermatic Challenger 172VictorO/AAtlas Craftsman 12 by 24 LatheEsab PCM-875Wholesalem Tool Mill-Drill
Reply:You say sheet metal, but sheet metal comes in all sorts of alloys? Some don't need gas back-up (mild steel), some run better with back-up (stainless and aluminum), and some require it (titanium). What alloy are you welding? |
