Plastic to steel

These go to a garbage disposal in a commeriecal kitchen.  They keep breaking, so they asked me to make a steel one.  I took a look at the application and asked if I could use a nipple instead of coupling. They said sure.  Here is the old plastic part that keeps breaking:I cut the threads off the 2" nipple so it would be easier to work with. Drilled some holes so I could connect the dots freehand with the plasma in 1/4" plate.Trimmed a little.  Took the pipe, heated it and beat it till I got what I wanted.Last edited by Fred Sanford; 02-19-2009 at 09:03 PM.

Reply:Welded with machine on 140 amps, I have no idea how many I used.  Filler was ER70S-6, 3/32 tungsten red or gold, #8 cup, water cooled WP20 torch.Inside after trimmed up with a die grinder.Total time NOT including going to get the pipe, almost an hour.  It took a while to get the pipe to do what I wanted and fit the square hole I made.  Shoulda done the pipe first and then cut the hole from a tracing of the pipe.  I couldn't quite get the pipe big enough to fit the hole.  Fred  Sanford
Reply:Looks good. Any way you can sandblast/beadblast the inside and upper flange, then coat with a semi-flexible rubber like the stuff Devcon makes, to keep it from rusting? Maybe they lose enough grease that it will be protected by that?
