I ordered the eastwood powder coating gun and powder coated my tubing bender and the stand I built for it. Powder coating is the only way to go. It all turned out much better than I expected for my first time. This is the powder gun I bought. They are selling them on ebay for 62 bucks, a few years ago this same gun was a couple hundred. This is the stand for the bender. I built it to bolt to my welding table were the vise usually is.Pics of the parts of bender after powder coating.Showing how glossy the powder is.Another reflection shot. One of the bender parts.Bender put together.Different angleLast one.All in all it beats spray paint hands down. It is very easy to apply and super easy to clean up.
Reply:What did you use to bake the pieces? Infrared light or an oven? Those pieces look really good!Fire!, Fire! Oh wait, that's my torch...Lincoln PT-225 TIGLincoln 175 MIG
Reply:That looks great, just like paint from the pics. How much air supply do you need to run one well?pro-level dumpster diver                                     Hobart 125EZ
Reply:I used a regular household oven, all that is required is 400 degrees for 20 min. You can pick up used in wall ovens on craigslist for as little as 25 bucks. All that is required for air is 6 to 10 PSI so any air compressor will work.I have some chrome powder that I am going to try tomorow. I will post some pics.
Reply:Any problems with the die pins fitting to tightly afterward?
Reply:Nice and shiney, you will need sun glasses from the reflection. It adds alot to the looks of the unit, for sureThanks for the heads up on the Eastwood setup, been looking at it for a while. Already have the oven ready in the shop.

Reply:Briefly , what is the procedure for powder coating at home, any special chemicals or electronics? The parts look great, is there overspray like using a paint gun? Reply:So does the gun use powder? Is it electrostatic?
Reply:Yes the gun has a high voltage control box that plugs into a 110 volt outlet and you have a button you press with one hand while you are applying the powder. The powder goes in the jar screwed under the gun and as it passes through the barrell it becomes positively charged and is attracted to the metal that is negatively charged due to a ground clip being attached to the part. Then when the powder is evenly coated on the part you just bake it at 400 degrees for about 20 min and it is ready for service.Cleanup is as easy as using a air hose and blowing away the excess powder.
Reply:Nice it would go well with my blast cabinet, shame Im in the UK
Reply:how much does the powder cost?It looks dam good.

Reply:This is fantastic! For some reason it never entered my mind that I could do this myself.I just looked on ebay , etc and see several brands in the under $200 setup. The price is so low I am suspicious. What experience does anyone have with different equipment and why does it suddenly jump from $100 to tens of thousands for equipment (other that scale - size of ovens etc)I'm thinking of doing my whole house (on a hot day)
Reply:looks great east wood has alot of good stuffits top dollar but they say if its made in usa
Reply:just a tip for anyone I did powdercoating for a few years for work, when doing aluminium its best to prebake the part the alminium is pourus and can hold contaminates. but it lasts very well and if u sand and prep the parts u can wet sand the powder coat and buff to glass like gloss, better than any clear you have ever seen cause its so hard.
