Ok, I just got a new Prince spool gun & circuit board to add to my Power mig 255. I read the instructions, but don't know a few things. 1) what gas do I use for aluminum? 2) This kit comes with a hose, but no regulator. Assuming that my regular gas is the wrong gas for Aluminum, do I need to physically swap the regulator I have & hoses to the tank that I'll need to get? And switch regulator and hose back for mild steel? I was hoping I could just pick up a gun and go... Any way to do that?I got to believe that this should be set up so I have everything setup and turn the machine on, open a valve and go welding.....Either regular MIg or spool gun. Or maybe there's a solenoid somewhere and all I need to do is add a new regulator on a new tank? Help.. Once I get this going , I'm sure I'll be asking a bunch more questions on mig welding with a spool gun... Thanks...
Reply:Fixit... The gas hose that is supplied with your spool gun should go into the connector on the front of your MIG machine for the gas supply. You won't need to get another regulator as the one you have should work for both CO2 and Argon. You will need to switch out the tank of you are going from steel to aluminum as you need a CO2 or CO2 mix for your steel welding and Straight Argon for Aluminum. As far as making the system a "pick-up and go" deal, you might be able to get a Spool Gun Control box to run the spool gun off of the power source from your MIG but I'm not sure if it would work how you want/expect it to. In the long run it might just be cheaper to buy another dedicated welder if you want to switch from Steel to Aluminum at the drop of a hood.Maybe someone here has a setup like you want and will chime in. I have 5 MIG welders but still TIG all of my aluminum.Hope this helps!!- Paulhttp://all-a-cart.comWelding Cart Kits and accessories |
