I recently purchased a Lincoln MIG that included a 150 cf argon cylinder that the seller said he had purchased. It's an Airgas bottle - the name is embossed in the neck. Does anyone who deals with Airgas know if I'm going to have any problems when its time for a refill if I don't have proof of purchase? Is there some way that Airgas distinguishes between customer owned and rental cylinders?FWIW, I really believe that the seller purchased the cylinder and that it wasn't a "hi-jacked" rental bottle.
Reply:airgas told me once " all 150 cuft bottles are owner bottles"i was exchanging slice necks and they gave me cylinders with their name on it.I have since swpped the cylinders at home depot with no issuesairgas also changed me about $20 per bottle more than home depot
Reply:My local Airgas told me that they don't separate rental and owner bottles. They don't even know how many I have. When I first started dealing with them I just had to sign something that said I owned my bottles. Since I inherited a few from Grandpa and purchased the rest directly from another LWS, I signed it. No questionable deals here to worry about. You might ask Airgas if they have the previous owner on file with a lifetime lease. In that case, it is still owned by Airgas. If he is not on file, then you could be alright. My name's not Jim....
Reply:Airgas here will take anything that isnt stamped praxair or burnidge oxygen. A bottles a bottle to them as long as its not those two. I have never had a problem with any of my cylinders i switched from Linweld to Airgas a few years ago and they took everything except my Praxair bottles. I buy cylinders from Craigslist from time to time and i just check the ring if it doesnt say praxair or burnidge i usually buy it if its a good deal.I forgot how to change this.
