I have a 5500 Honda generator and need to run a Hobart 110v. 140 machine in a very remote location. My ? is will the generator power it up?   Kevin
Reply:Should Whats The Amprage Output On The Genarator And Whats The Amprage Nput On The Welder.KISS...KEEP IT SAFE STUPID
Reply:Try it in your driveway first before trying it at the remote site.If the welder is not at max output, the generator may be able to handle the load.  Because your typical 5500W 240V generator is only supplying HALF of that on each of the two 120V legs, you only have about 2200W MAX on each of the 120V legs/circuits on the generator.Let us know what you find out!
Reply:When I'm racing off-road we take one of my Lincoln SP135's with fluxcore and a Honda EU3000 generator.I was skeptical at first if the gen. would power the welder but when I tried it in my shop, it worked fine. I wasn't able to weld at full capacity but darn close to it....close enough for making any repair that we would need to make on the race truck. At this last year's Baja 1000, I made 2 repairs to the race trucks with no issue while in the field.I think you'll be fine but like Moon said, try it first.- Paulhttp://all-a-cart.comWelding Cart Kits and accessories
Reply:Thanks everyone I'll give it a try
