Tig & brass?

I've got a 6" labour pump with one broken mount on the bottom of it and the part is cast. So the question is has anybody tried tig welding cast with a bare brass rod before? If so what what setup do I need?(Gas type, Flowrate,and overall procedure.)
Reply:The part is cast. Cast what?If it is cast iron, you can tig weld it with a silly bronze rod- sometimes called Everdur or Silicon Bronze.this will work a lot better than a bare bronze rod.Straight argon, lots of gas.The cast iron needs to be very clean- oil and grease seems to really work its way into cast iron, and then never want to leave. I have had luck with sandblasting, but solvent and wire brushing could work too.For tig brazing, a preheat and postheat is probably not necessary.I also have had good luck patching and fixing cast iron with nickel tig rods.If it is cast brass- then you are talking different problems- there are a hundred or so alloys of "brass" and it really depends how much lead and zinc there is in it, as to how easy you could braze it. Too much zinc, it sputters and smokes white smoke. If its brass, I would be more inclined to try a silver solder, and a gas torch.

Reply:Thanks for the advice guys.It's cast iron and it bolts on the bottom of the pump so I dont think i'll have to worry about clearance.
Reply:well if its cast iron i'd use nickle 99 tigged......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
