Okay awhile back I bought a Trailblazer as we're going to start doing a bit of outside work.  I'm picking up this 5x10 trailer in the morning and I'm looking for some advice on the best place to mount the welder on the trailer for stability.  It will be pulled by a half ton truck so my biggest concern is weight dist and stability.A couple of lead reels with 100ft of lead x2 will also be mounted along with a tool box.  I'd prefer to keep some room at the rear of the trailer open for carrying parts etc. Attached Images
Reply:beef up those rails a little and bridge across with structural steel to mount the machine on top, or just second deck it. You can now slide material underneath. Just a thought. Unless the trailer is not dedicated to welding and must do double duty."Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum"Lincoln Idealarc 250 AC/DCMillermatic 251   Syncrowave 300   30A spoolgunLincoln MP210Hypertherm 45(2) LN 25(2) Lincoln Weldanpower 225 CV(4) SA200   1 short hood    SA250    SAM 400
Reply:You'll probably overload that trailer with the TB, leads and the rest of the stuff- I imagine it probably has about 1,000lbs Cargo cap.anyhoo- you'll want more weight towards the front so ya don't get swayEd Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge
Reply:That's an idea for sure. but looking for "placement" advice as to when to mount it in relation to the axle... it will be mounted perpendicular to the trailer's length.going above the rail may be a good idea though as the rail would interfere with the controls a bit.  but that may lead to center of gravity issues...?

Reply:I'd weigh the trailer and everything you want to put in it. Then I'd get a scale and put under the tongue and move you're stuff around until the tongue weight is between 10% and 15% of what everything weighs.
Reply:Thanks Countrylife, I had the tongue weight issue figured out.  I think I am going to bridge the rails and mount the machine on top.  It weighs 550lbs so I'm thinking a couple pieces of 2x2 tubing will handle that. Going to mount it right over the axle, and put the lead reels to the back a bit and the Air Comp towards the front along with a tool box.  Another box for the plasma cutter, rods etc towards the back.  That should give me about 300lbs tongue weight.  The hitch is rated for 500lbs so I'll be good to go.
