Reply:Love those old Mopars!Out  of curiosity, Are those heads getting hard to find or is he trying to stay with a numbers matching car? I used to be able to get the 383's easily. The 440's were harder to find but not too bad. I could see all that work for a 340 or a hemi.

Reply:If it's a show car, it probably means its all original.Damn that's a good price. I forget what I paid years ago to get the heads rebuilt for my 318 when I redid the motor but I bet I paid at least that much 15 years ago! I think we paid about $50 for a running motor at that time for the small blocks, $100 for a running 440. I wanted to keep my high compression heads so that's why I paid the extra to get them rebuilt rather than just get a good used set. Of course I did get all new guides valves etc at that time.My guess would have been $650+ easily. I would have figured at least $200 min  just to weld it. Figure 2 hrs work as a min time charge at $75/hr. Then at least $50+ for consumables, gas, fuel, rod, grinding disks etc. Then all the machining and rebuild. As you can see its been a while since I did much with these.
Reply:I'm guessing the fuel for preheat came out of overhead as there is no charge for it.How did you preheat it?A butterfly without wings, is just an ugly bug
