Today was my first time using foot control with my new Precision TIG 225. I figured out that I need to raise my stool for bench welding. I have made a platform beneath my table for my welder to sit on, and while I was welding in a brace, sitting on the floor, I had to use my knee to operate the foot control. This was very awkward and rough on my back. What does everyone else do when welding out of position?
Reply:Whatever I do..Stuff on the bench...Stuff on the floor..Roll cages...(It's been awhile..)Go thru a "Dress Rehersal"..Make your adjustments to be most comfortable before you start..I weld upside down sometimes tigging..And yes its not good for ones posture after awhile..Thats why we make the big bucks... ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:You can do what most of us do
Improvise, adapt, and overcome. Or you can just go out and buy a hand amp control.
Reply:yes to the abovesome times it can be the challange
Reply:I do over head tig work here and there. If you cant run a vert pass dont even try over head. I do Pontoon boats once in a while, that usually have cracks or holes in them. Your flat on your back working the pedal with your knee lots of fun.
Reply:Sometimes you have to be pretty creative._________________Chris
Reply:If you do a lot of out of position work with your TIG I suggest that you look into getting a hand amptrol control. That way your stop-start and current control is on your torch where your hand is right under your thumb. .Miller Millermatic 252Miller Syncrowave 200Liincoln AC-DC 225Victor O-A Set
Reply:I just picked up a hand amptrol. It sure is cheesy looking compared to the one that was on my Miller.Slag, I am fine with vertical and over head welding. My problem was getting used to a foot control for the first time. |
