I have begun to get a hiss and very slow weld instead of the normal crackle sound when welding.  I am low on uni-mix, but shouldn't't be out.  My temp and wire speed are correct.  The weld stick to the tip a few times yesterday before I called it quits for the day.  Any ideas what is causing this?
Reply:A wire feed problem, something hanging up the wire, could cause this.  With the proper balance of wfs and voltage you had the short circuit metal transfer with the regular crackle frying sound.  Now if the wire is slowed down at this voltage, the arc becomes longer, the wire not longer short circuits to the weld on a regular basis, rather it balls up and drops globs of metal across the arc, hence globular transfer.  Since you no longer have the frequent short circuits, you don't have the crackle, you have more of a hiss.

Reply:if you know that the wire speed is set correctly then like you said check the drive roll tension, spool, might need to blow out the liner maybe (?). was the lead straight or were there bends in it at the time this happened?

Reply:i ask because the smaller migs with the single drives can have a hard time feeding if theyre not setup just right. a coil MAY have been the last straw so to speak, which caused the feed to slow enough that you got burnback and hissing. just a thought either way make sure everything else is correct, and burn some wire!!!!
