i need to build a ramp to put a mower in my truck that weighs 1200lb with me on it. it needs to be 8' long and 4' wide. would 2"x3/16 angle with 5 8' lengths be fine or should i go thicker. the tread will be the expanded metal that is raised for traction (what ever it is called) i will also be building a false floor to store it under in the truck.
Reply:If anything go taller not thicker. Taller angle will support more weight before bending than thicker shorter angle the same weight.I'd be worried that the angle is too steep and the mower will bottom out on the truck when you try to go over the top..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:you would be better served to purchase an aluminum arched ramp. Now I know you won't get to weld that route, but it would be cheaper and much easier.
