I have seen some people advertise this as "stitchwelding" I use stitching or pinning, but not welding! I read on a thread some time ago someone mention this process, so I posted a repair. This was done with Lock n Stitch products. If curious they have a good website.Peter Attached Images
Reply:The only tools I actually recognise there are the mag particle tester, the drill and the die grinder.  How do the other ones work?

Reply:Being as it's essentially a plug, I guess.  Doesn't the head keep on expanding and contracting over time enough to loosen it or make another crack?"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:Castweld--- Sorry, I posted reply to G3 while yours was comin' down. That's some interesting stuff. In the case of a spark plug you have surrounding casting sealing the plug, and moving as a unit(preventing cracking).  I wondered if the same is true where there's nothing restraining the casting around the Stitch Weld.I'm thinking as I'm typing.....  I wonder if, because the stress has been releived by the innitial crack, the Stitch Weld merely fills the gap and allows some further stress relief, and prevents future cracking?I don't fully understand cast iron.  You work with some pretty delicate stuff.  It's fun to learn about it"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:Lost my connection for a minuteSorry to drag this out.  I know you use this regularly with success, I'm just trying to understand how it works.Pic one, the crackPic two, drilling out the material around the crackPic three, the crack filled with the insert, drawn weird just to show the insert, not that it's loose. My question is..... The original crack is a void, drilling it out enlarges the void, the inserts fill the void, but how do the inserts hold both sides of the remaining casting together, or does it matter that the sides be held together with a solid connection? Reply:Thanks, doggone sure rather talk about this than tractors. That's what confused me, was the ability of the threads to "hold" it together absent a weld.I did look at the Stitch Weld site, and probably didn't find the info, or it was too sketchy.  I prefer hearing from someone who can talk in real time with real words, and is successful at it.I appreciate you not gettin' pi$$ed.  It's a new thing to me.  Never seen this before. It sounds like a good no-alternative repair.  Either money, or location of the crack.  Never fully considered the angle of the fastener, and how the threads would grip at that angleLearned more here on this site than I could in a lifetime"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
