TIG without gas

More stupid questions about things people probably shouldn't do; what will welds look like if you don't use shielding gas? Anyone tried with TIG or MIG?--------------------GMC WLDR 140A Stick Arc cheapskatenow with 90% more burnthrough

Reply:Had a gas problem with a mig welder and the welds looked like swiss cheese and wouldn't hold. Sheilding gas is very inportant.Miller DVI2Lincoln Precision Tig 225Thermodynamics Cutmaster 38Everything else needed.

Reply:faex,  Here's a picture I took of 16 gauge steel I welded with and without filler with no gas. These I did when I found a couple of used Miller TIG welders with problems. When I got the full wide open current problem resolved I sat for a quick minute on each welder using both 3/32 and 1/16 tungsten with no argon, some welds are using 1/16 70s2 and some are no filler, notice the tungsten 3/32 on left and 1/16th on right. Both were grinded before the less than 1 minute weld each, you will notice that the 3/32 has a hump in the middle, well the bench grinder ripped it out of my hand and I had to fight it back from it.
