Reply:My vote is for some form of steady rest.R"I heard that!!"
Reply:I'd guess it's the 'tailstock' end of a welding positioner for pipe. That second shot above almost looks like an old film negative; is it supposed to look like something from "The Twilight Zone"?
Reply:Maybe it takes you into another dimension, like the Stargate thingy?   Have a Jeep Cherokee?  Click Here!
Reply:Looks kike a steady rest, kind of light weight looking, but do not know what it will be used for.Just wondering how you bent the angle iron into a circle, that looks really good.G3miller... 225g, s32p, 250x, 304, 12vs, MSW41     victor o/a thermal dynamics cutmaster 50 lenco panel spotter        hobart hf-boxG3 Farms.....raising cattle, hay, kids and hell, ...oh yeah I'm a fire sprinkler contractor by trade.
Reply:its clearly a Stargate.  it folds space and time, so you can travel to the past/future to any point in the universe. I've only used something like that once before

Reply:Ahem! The Stargate does not take you to other dimensions, it creates a stable worm hole through space that you pass through to other planets in the galaxy! To be able to pinpoint any position in space, you need 6 points of reference, like for example, the 6 sides of a box, the point in the middle at which if you drew a line from them all to the others is the point at which you will arrive, add a 7th point for a reference point to which to travel from, and then add the gate and its many constellation reference point addresses and you have the event horizon to which to pass through!I hope that is as clear as mud! #1. If you don't like what I wrote, or if it offends you, then don't read it!#2. I am living life the way I see fit, if you don't like the way I'M living, tough sh**!

Reply:I'll bet if a hub were placed inside the 3 little wheels that any motion of the hub would be transferred to the bigger outside wheel almos perfectly. If the hub were attached to your foot, the big wheel would be an extension of your foot thru the little wheels, and the fixed arms holding the little wheels to the bigger outside wheel."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Looking back at the title leads one to think it might  have something to do with skating. But looking closer at the THING with the skate wheels I assuming that you might insert some round stock into the center of the thing tighten the thing up on the stock and spin it around while using your cutting torch.Did I win the Brass Ring????????And I was just starting to like the Star Gate ideaCo-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.&  2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.
Reply:There was a similar device in another thread on another forum. The one in that thread was a steady rest for a wood lathe. Judging the size by the skate wheels, this iteration is about 1/3rd the diameter of the other.I found the site, click on "Clark Steady Rest":  http://www.theokspindoctor.com/RexLast edited by rode2rouen; 03-22-2009 at 10:46 PM.Reason: found the site
