Can Crusher #2

Here's my second can crusher project, for the house since the son-in-law is taking the higher capicity one to his shop. We just don't have many cans at the house anymore.First picture is the start of the build showing the garage door opener power supply, running a chain to a bicycle sprocket which runs the ram against the anvil. Once crushed, the can drops out the bottom as soon as the ram moves back.The second picture shows the small feed chute that holds the cans and has been painted.The thrd picture shows the completed project with a cover over the chain and is ready to be set on a bench. The anvil end hangs off the bench about 2" and a bag is hung on the anvil framework to catch the cans. Sorry I don't have any cans to demonstrate but I crushed them all while I was tweeking in the build. Attached Images

Reply:Somebody need to design and build a hydraulic crusher/ press to make something useful out of discarded beer cans.   We need to take this up a notch

Reply:Ok, the first thing you did wrong was not make the chute tall enought to hold at least a 12pack. Reply:For a sports bar the chute could be a basket ball hoop, for the drinkers to toss their cans into from around the bar!!!  Now designing the chute to align the cans so they fall horizontal will be the most fun.   Then add a proximity switch so the can will be crushed automatic.  While its crushing the hoop could start flashing Xmas lights and ring a bell????Last edited by Trap Doctor; 03-28-2009 at 09:07 AM.
Reply:Just got back from Memphis from visiting the kids. Took the first higher capacity can crusher down there for them and their friends to use, they'll get a lot more good out of it than I will. Man, you guys sure have some "tall order" add-ons for this thing. Set up right in the proper location (bub - bar), it might add some activity and entertainment to the evening.
