what aresome of the better bench vise brands ? 6" .
Reply:Wilton, Athol, Starrett, Reed, Charles Parker, Rock Island, Prentiss...Many of the above are no longer made.  Look for made in the USA - Wilton has some cheaper models made offshore.

Reply:Go to a few industrial auctions or try and find places that sell 2nd hand industrial tools. Most big industrial vises are good quality. They may not come cheap however. Many can run more than a new "cheap" vise. You don't list your location. If you are anywhere near NJ, Joseph Fazzio's Glassboro location usually has some big vises for good prices. Well worth the trip..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:TAke a minute and add your location to your User CP at the top left. That way guys know roughly where you are located. Reply:Columbian used to make a tough machinist vise.  They were bought by Wilton.  Look on eBay, there are some really good deals from time to time.
