Finally got back to this project: I had asked in another thread for some input on ideas for weights for my small skid loader, I'm too cheap to by the factory weights. I found some 40 lb steel "bricks" and a 8 x 10 channel to mount them in at the scrap yard. Total weight per side is right around 200lbs.I used my "new" Dialarc 250; first time welding on DC. I used 5/32 6013 at 125 amps, I couldn't believe how smooth and quite it is, I love this machine. I mounted the channels to the loader using the existing holes, the first side went great, holes lined up perfect. The second was a %#$^%$@@. It took me 2 hours of trimming, die grinding hammering and swearing to get mounted.. After the channel was mounted, I put the bricks inside and filled the voids with some foam to keep the weights from bouncing around.I then mounted the back plate with a couple of short welds on each edge. I was going to drill and tap the plate, but I don't think I will be ever taking those things off. If they need to come off I'll just grind off the welds. Attached Images
Reply:A couple of more pictures. After dinner I decided to take some feed to the barn using the new improved skid loader; I thought I would try cutting across a field I usually don't go on until may and promptly buried the skid steer to the frame, got the tractor out of the barn, got it stuck and ran out of gas. It took my son and I almost two hours to get both machines out of the mud. I'm usually smart enough to stay out of the mud (we have horriable clay on most of the property). Attached Images
