I'm considering using my hydraulic table as a welding table for my Miller Thunderbolt 225 AC and my HH187. I almost always clamp directly to the work but would occasionally use the table top as ground. The HF table (1000-lb-capacity-hydraulic-scissor-table-cart-93116) does have bearings or at least pivot points, any consideration need to be given to stray circulating currents during welding? I'm strictly a hobbyist, short welding times on projects...yet I wonder if a dedicated non-bearings bearing table like the stronghand nova might avoid problems. I'm also considering building a portable welding top that will fit on my Workmate. Thanks for your comments.JimboTN  Always in a "Volunteer State" of mindLast edited by JimboTN; 08-18-2011 at 02:44 PM.Reason: add info re: hydraulic tableDillon/Henrob/Cobra 2000, Victor 100FC, Meco-N-Midget, Hobart HH187, Miller Thunderbolt 225AC, Razorweld Vipercut 30A Plasma, and lots of grinders
Reply:As long as you don't ground where the current needs to pass through a bearing or other moveable piece, and the ground point is clean, you should be fine. If the hydraulic table is electrically powered you might have an issue with the welding current back tracking through the ground of the power cord. I've seen grinder cords burn up from that on older, metal framed and grounded grinders.
Reply:I used a portable welding table based on an HF workmate for quite a while.  It worked reasonably well,  was easy to set up,and took up very little space when folded up.
Reply:Thanks for the response. That's was what I was thinking, and mine is "foot powered hydraulic" but I also know that magnetic currents can flow so I thought I'd ask. Rather ask once that regret numerous times...I have two workmate types...one is a Black-Decker original from 1980 (?) and the other is a Sears copy from a few years ago. I find them highly adaptable, convenient, and stowable...but not flameproof, hence the plans for a metal top with clamping points and tilting... at least that's the plan. I'm impressed with the neat welder carts and welding tables and hope to take time to build those up...after my most pressing projects are behind me and some spare cash presents itself!Last edited by JimboTN; 08-19-2011 at 01:23 AM.Reason: added to responseDillon/Henrob/Cobra 2000, Victor 100FC, Meco-N-Midget, Hobart HH187, Miller Thunderbolt 225AC, Razorweld Vipercut 30A Plasma, and lots of grinders
