I have the autocad file for a license plate bracket for my bike. It's seen here.http://www.600rr.net/vb/showthread.php?t=192920Can someone cut this for me and tell me what you recommend for material and thickness?Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer
Reply:I see no cad drawing there?I see people asking for it there though.Cutting this part out is not a problem. That's the easy part. How do you plan on making the bends for this part after it is cut out?Do you have a metal break? The guy who posted the pics of this original design didn't use a metal break to make the bends and you can tell by the poor quality of the finnished product. Poor bends (unstraight lines) and poor looking finnished product. I like how he titles his post "good quality fender eliminator".The finnished piece is more of a muffler/exhaust support than anything and a poor looking one at that. It looks like it has been bent by hand or pounded into shape. The part didn't look bad, till it was bent to fit his bike.....Then it looked well, bad. Not something I would be proud to put on my bike.Last edited by snoeproe; 08-15-2011 at 08:47 PM.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
Reply:I thought about buying a brake press today I saw at harbor freight. It's $32 for an 18" one and says it will bend up to 16g. However I'm sure with a little force it can go bigger. I have the autocad file in my email I just figured I would share the link to show you what I was talking about.Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer
Reply:you could put cut lines with the plasma cutter where the bend lines are and leave them connected.. then bend the bracket where you want it, then weld it..tackleexperts.comwww.necessityjigs.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/mach...dingequipment/
Reply:Looks like that one failed in the execution stage....No need for fancy equipment.  Print it out full size, glue it to some 1/8" aluminum and go to town with a jig saw and flap wheel.  Scribe the bend lines lightly through the paper before removing it.  With a little effort, the bends can be done in a vise.  BTDT. Got one on my bike.My name's not Jim....

Reply:I'd be happy to cut it for you.....if you have the .dxf (Autocad file) send it along.....and let me know what thickness you'd like. I will modify the drawing with some plasma cut bend lines, can ship it to you flat...then you can easily bend it and weld up the bends afterward.Jim Colt   [email protected] Originally Posted by GambleI have the autocad file for a license plate bracket for my bike. Reply:Originally Posted by DSWMany press brakes will do thicker material at shorter lengths. I forget what the ones Northern was selling was rated at, but they did have lengths listed for 1/2" on down. Keep in mind that if you exceed the thickness enough, at some point something will let loose. In a 20 ton press, when something goes, it can be less than fun if you are in the way. I've seen hunks of steel shot across the shop when students didn't load the press right and tried to bend welds. You don't get a chance to react when something like this happens.

Reply:It doesn't have to "brake", just shoot out of the press if too much force is applied and something starts to deflect. Thinking about this a liitle, I'm not sure if you are talking about a standard brake, like a box and pan brake, or an actual press brake that goes in a shop press like I'm refering to.http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too...ct_21896_21896http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too...duct_7902_7902If you are talking about a standard box and pan brake, usually you bend and distort the unit if you try to bend material thicker than it's designed to handle. Once you do that it will never bend right agin unless you completely rebuild the unit to straighten it out. Some people have done some mods to stiffen the HF sheetmetal brake as it is to help prevent these issues even with the rated thicknesses. A link to what unit you are refering to would help.Edit: If it's the one Ed posted, they won't take much to distort and screw up. I've got a small one similar to that for siding work and alum flashing is about all it's really good for.Last edited by DSW; 08-16-2011 at 10:45 AM..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:i might be able to convert it with mastercam, would have to check to make sure.i have autocad also, not familiar with it, but it might convert also..Last edited by brucer; 08-16-2011 at 04:20 PM.tackleexperts.comwww.necessityjigs.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/mach...dingequipment/
