Is there a trick to bending tubing or pipes without bender? I thought about using a torch to heat the metal up, but I am not sure if it will bend or just kink the pipe. Do any of you know a trick to bend 1 in stainless pipe, some 90 bends but nothing more. I am just trying to keep the flow as high as possible. My Babies:MillerMatic 185Thermal Arc 300SHobart StickMate AC/DC 235/160Dalex Werke Spot WelderOh and the wife and kids are important too!

I would be rich.Ok, for bending without a bender....the method seems to be to pack the tube with damp sand, weld up caps so the sand doesn't come out. I would imagine you need to leave a hole for steam to escape though. Then you can heat up the tube and bend gently with a large radius. If you bend too sharp of a centerline radius you will most likely kink the tube. Even using this method I would buy the cheapest harbor freight pipe bender because you can use the dies as a guide instead of trying to bend your tube over the edge of a table or something square. If you are only bending 1 inch, I have seen some very affordable tubing benders! 1 inch was the upper limit of their abilities. Suggestion: Find one of the members here close to you that can bend it for a beer. I would. Reply:Call an off road or racecar shop in your area. They will have a bender and usually will bend one off pieces for a reasonable price. There should be a boatload of shops in Ohio. |
