I am going to be putting an eby aluminum flat bed on my pickup to start the build of my welding rig.  I was asked am I going to put stacks on it by a friend.  I got no idea if I should or not.   Does anybody have pictures of stacks on your welding rig?    The other question would be, single, duals?  Along would you have them inbetween the bed and cab, or come up threw the bed some how? Thanks in advance.Lincoln 300 Vantage 2008300 Commander 1999SA250 1999SA200 1968Miller Syncrowave 200XMT350MPA/S-52E/xr-15Xtreme 12vs Millermatic 251 w/30A  Millermatic 251 Dialarc 250 Hypertherm 1250 GEKA & Bantom Ironwokers
Reply:In my opinion they can fit just can't make em tacky, I would first ask what truck its going on. maybe a pic of it also

Reply:In my opinion, everything has to be just right to make stacks look good.  I think it has to be on a dually, it has to have a flatbed, it has to have the heat shields and they need to come out in front of the bed  as long as the bed is wide enough.  That's just my thoughts on it.  There are several trucks running around town with the ugliest stacks.  One is a gas burner and the stacks are 2" tubing, another is a datsun with a home made wood bed and 2" stacks, and another is a 3/4 ton with some 4" stacks that stick up about 3 ft. above the cab and about the last 2ft are on a 45 deg.DewayneDixieland WeldingMM350PLincoln 100Some torchesOther misc. tools

Reply:The way I did mine, I cut the exhaust off about 18" in front of the bed, removing the muffler and exhaust pipe going back.  Put in about a foot long piece of  flex pipe, going into a  45, which is welded to a Tee.  I then cut a hole in each of the bed runners (4" channel iron) to get the pipes out to the corners of the bed. Then a 90 on each end, and a short piece stubbed up thru the bed.  The chrome stacks are then clamped onto the short stub ups, and also clamps are welded to the headache rack to support the stacks.  I didn't have a mig when I did this (I put the stacks on in '96, when the truck was about 6 months old) so all the welding was done with the Lincoln in the pic with 3/32 6010.  The only problems I've had with this setup is the flex-pipe has rotted out and broken twice ( I think next time I replace it, I'll get some stainless flex) and I wish I hadn't made them quite so tall.  I should have made them the same height as the off road lights, or maybe a few inches taller.  You have to be careful what you drive under.

Reply:The stacks come in kinda handy if you have your pump turned up a wee bit... otherwise all the smoke at ground level would probably be a bad thing. Attached Images

Reply:U guys don't have a problem with rain?  Some stacks used to have a cap that blows out of the way when the engine is running.  Might be called an exhaust cap.  Keeps water from filling the exhaust.Gordie -- "I believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant."

Reply:I am a big fan of stacks but another thread on here isn't! I like my stacks low but the only problem is that makes them a little louder. You definantely want a muffler if you like your ears. I love my stacks and the sound they make. My truck won't have a regular exhaust on it again. I met a guy a number of years ago with a green Dodge that was hot, from what I hear he has twin turbos and is really hot now, he goes by the name of "Red Hot Weld" but that was on the diesel sites. He was from the North East but I met him in Indiana.“Life is not a journey to the grave with intentions of arriving safely in a pretty well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming ... WOW! What a ride!”
Reply:In my opinion if its not a PETERBILT, KENWORTH, FRIEGHTLINER etc. etc. etc. It shouldn't have stacks. But, if thats what your into.
