After years of coveting a welder, my HH187 showed up the other day. Got down to the local shop and picked up a bottle of gas.   These are my first beads.  I'd appreciate comments for improvement.I went to a friend's shop and he gave me some scraps. Told me to weld these pieces together.A profile. Seems like the bead starts awful tall as I go up the edge and then to the other extreme...Some splatter. I found that I was holding the nozzle a bit far off of the work.  Seemed better if I kept the wire shorter. The other side. Some indication of penetration from the length wise welds.Played around a bit with different wire speed/settings. I suppose over time one will figure it out.  The Hobart manual has a pretty good "bead troubleshooting" section, but comments from you pros will be appreciated. This machine is as user friendly as I can imagine a welder could be. A real pleasure to use.
Reply:Looks good to me but I'm no mig expert..I got by at it one time but that was long ago..Tig is my game..For the first time??Great!!With any process practice and seat time is your best friend..Keep it up! ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
