Typical Monday morning , used cut off to cut out crack. Then decided to photograph. Made cuts deeper than what showed up with mag. Used screwdriver to pry out. Then Monday surprise! Crack y'ed and continued sub surface, used die grinder and cut untill I couldn't see. Re mag and there it is still going! Cut some more, re mag and finally found the end. Used tree and ball to radius, powder welding does not like sharp edges. Attached Images
Reply:Weld.Weld after blasting.Seats cut in weld and excess weld ground out of ports and chamber.Assembled head. Heat tab epoxied to core plug.700 degree preheat, powder weld hot, post heat 700, cool 100 degrees per half hour, at 400 turn off oven let cool Attached Images

Reply:Castweld:First thing, you take great pics, what camera?I'm easily entertained, but this is more fun than usual. (including the repaired rockers)Pic 5 is an eye opener! Fits right in there with things I don't know about. What's a heat tab epoxied to core plug? Does it help with the pre/post heat? Except the epoxies I know about have a 200* limit, not 700*.Last edited by Craig in Denver; 04-22-2009 at 11:05 PM.9-11-2001......We Will Never ForgetRetired desk jockey. Reply:That heat tab is for his warranty purposes so he can tell if the head was overheated when the customer brings it back a couple weeks later with another crack because they didn't replace the bad water pump, thermostat or shot radiator.  Says "VOID IF REMOVED".  Kinda like the fuse plugs that Detroit diesel used to use in their heads.  Melted out at 240 degrees or somewhere around that.  Looks like a plain screw so the unknowing owner wouldn't remove it before bringing the unit in for a 'warranty' replacement.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!

Reply:That's some fancy bit to kit you have there, and you certainly know how to use it. How did you prevent the plug/injector threads from getting fouled
Reply:I have a question, you cut into (looks like the water jacket) do you plug the open area with any material that wont burn away but will wash away so the powder welding doesnt fill in the water jacket area and leave a hot spot when the head is installed? thanxs
Reply:Great looking repair.  I've pushed a little thermal transfer around, but with minimal success. I think I need a pottery kiln to maintain the temperatures a little more accurate.Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
