Maybe bouncing around 700lbs on the shelves, and a few hundred in sheet and plate leaning on the backside.Bottom shelf is mostly UM plate, and assorted cutoffsMid shelf is mostly tubing, around 325lbs or soThe deflection I thought I saw when the rear end was on it turned out to be distortion from the welding.  The heat didn't balance out from welding the shelf thingies and the back strap.  So far no change in measurements.  So it's not moving so far.  Got my fingers crossedI would imagine the load will at least double, plus some, in the next week.  Price of steel is dropping like a rock here, and it's time to stock up for stuff that needs to be done.  I guess that's the next nail biterClarence was pooped out after all the stacking, and I'm trying to get ahold of my assistant for the all important overload test (She hasn't been answering her phone, do ya think she has caller ID??) Reply:Hi farmersamm, rack looks good and strong, earlier in the build i think i seen that you were using a tombstone to do the welding and i was wondering if you ran it off an ext.cord or a generator.Lincoln 225 ACLincoln Mig Pak 15Lincoln Mig Pak 10Purox Oxy-Acet Outfit20 Ton PressHonda Generator
Reply:I really like it.  If you have some extra channel I'd throw some gussets on it just for fun.  And maybe some 1 1/4" x 1/4" flat on the ends to stop rounds from rolling off.  Then build a 40' x 60' shop over it with 12' lean to's on each side.  lol!!!

Reply:Looks good sam. I'm all for some angle along the top and maybe the front on the top shelf so you could tarp it. Nothing heavy, just to provide a smooth and rigid support for a tarp.
Reply:I think I'm going to have to come over to borrow some metal and your assistant.OLD miller M-295  (AC)Century 230/140 ac/dcVictor torchNot much else but some cheap tools.
Reply:Nice rack  In the second picture on the very bottom is that round thing a piece of pipe or is it solid. If it solid that got to be pretty heavy.

Reply:Dang Samm, never thought I'd tell guy he had a nice rack, but that will definetly work.  I've thought about such a thing but everything I keep around is scrap that's 3-5' or shorter, so I just stuff most of it under my welding table.  Nice work as usual.
Reply:Nice rack - oh, wait, I'm looking at your assistant ..........Seriously, though, nice work on the rack.  I agree with PipeLiner on the extra supports and end stops, though ...... you can never be too safe.Last edited by SpyGuy; 04-27-2009 at 02:46 PM.
