Being a novice at welding but never daunted by a challenge, I'm helping a friend fix up a boat trailer to hold four kayaks.  It looks similar to this one.My question is about the feasibility of the second rack.  He wants to have it 72" on each side of the center posts and his kayaks weigh about 80-90lbs a piece.  The two center posts will be 1 1/2" square tubing and the cross bars will be the same size.  I'm working on a visio of them and should have it up soon.  On face value does anyone have any thoughts?
Reply:I'm not sure what you mean by "have it 72" on each side of the center posts." Here's one that I built. I think the upright posts were 1.5" and the arms were 1". Both were 11 gauge wall.I stole the kayak trailer design from dabar39. Attached Images
Reply:This may be obvious but you may want to let him know to load any extraneous items for the trailer as close to the axle as possible because it'd be easy to get that thing tongue heavy. Nice looking trailer BTW
Reply:I'm trying to figure out how to get the schematic up on my mac.  Did it at work and can't post there.  it's probably way over-engineered.  That's a great looking trailer.
Reply:This is one half of the frame of the trailer.  The bottom piece is for mounting to the frame.  This is what a lot of my weld's look like.  Any thoughts from anyone?
Reply:The photos are a little blury but they seem incomplete.
Reply:What machine are you welding with? Stick, MIG, or with OA? Looks like you are going too fast from what I can see.HH 187Miller Bluestar1EAHP AlphaTig 200X
