Hey guys:I'm a total newb to torches, but I've read here for a couple of days about acet vs. propane, but still have lots of questions:Acet is propane x 10 cost--propane winsI have 20# propane cylinders. Will standard cutting/welding/heating torches work with propane? By standard, I mean the ones that come up on Ebay when I type in 'cutting torch'I hear hoses have to be different for propane--true?tips need to be specific for propane, right?Still need an oxygen bottle--would rather own, what size?Specifics on my setup: Garage welder, minimal torch welding, if at all, mostly needed for heating/bending and cutting on occasion. This is really tough without knowing the weld-speak of the various websites. If you could spec an outfit for a hobby welder working out of a garage with plans to build just little tinkering stuff and maybe an occasional bigger piece as I get better, which would you buy? Metal thickness is almost certainly less than 1/2" steel, no exotic metals, just plain basic welding and heating/cutting.Thanks guys, sorry about the rambling, just post on whatever you think I should look at--links and stuff would be great.
Reply:Yep you need propane tips. You'll never weld with propane but you can cut up a battle ship with it. It's easy to convert to propane but if you're going to buy a torch set why not just buy a propane set up.
Reply:Thanks, do you know of a URL or place I should start looking? |
