I am in need of some advice... I am in the process of purchasing a tig machine... majority of work will be light to medium fabrication on various metals; stainless, cro-moly, and Alum. with most applications involving metal thickness less than 3/16... however with occasional 1/4 inch.I am looking at Miller syncrowave 200 and dynasty 200 DX... now for the question, how important are the extra features with dynasty. I have little experience welding Alum however this will change once I have my own machine; repairing / building bicycle frames, T-Top for fishing boat etc...Will need a machine to also weld really thin SS... with low amps ~5 or less.what machine will best suit needs mentioned? Please mention other machines if a different will work beter...Any advice will be welcomed.Last edited by moonlitewelder; 04-07-2007 at 05:21 PM.
Reply:I went with the dynasty for a couple reasons... Availability of power... strip the wires and stuff in the box - chances are it'll run on it. ( 1 or 3 phase, 110 - 440v). Range of current out. I wanted to be able to do sheet metal. I'd have gotten the maxstar, but wanted to learn to do Alum... which needs a/c
Reply:You'll be happy with the Miller, good choice. Support and consumables are easy to get.John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Go with the dynasty 200dx, you will NOT be disappointed. I got one recently and put it through its paces this week. Welded some custom aluminum valve covers, .100 aluminum to 1/2" flanges. Off of 230v/20a power, the machine put out the full 200 amps and didn't seem to work too hard as the fan only came on periodically. The 1/2" did need a little pre-heating, but once the heat was in, ran like butter. Your 1/4" stuff should be cake. The pulse feature is real nice on that stuff too. Hope this helps.
Reply:thanks for the comments - well all three go for Miller and 2 for 2 support the dynasty 200dx. I was leaning that way but was on the fence regarding the extra grand for this machine. do love the portability aspect of it as well.thanks again.
